GOVPAY systems for Traffic fines!
An awareness programme was held today to inform the public about the pilot project enabling traffic fine payments through the GovPay online. The event took place at the Government Information Department. ICTA Board Member stated that the pilot project involves 11 police stations, spanning from Kurunegala to Anuradhapura. He further said that steps are being taken to expand the project nationwide in the near future.
Speaking about the initiative, explained, “We’ve created an easy-to-follow leaflet explaining how to pay fines using GovPay. When a traffic fine is issued, this leaflet is handed over along with the fine notice. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to make the payment online, either through an internet banking portal or your mobile banking app.
When you select the GovPay option and choose 'Sri Lanka Police' under listed institutions, then select 'Traffic Fine', a digital form will appear. You’ll be asked to enter details such as your vehicle number, driver’s license number, the reference number on the leaflet, and the specific offense. These fields are available as a dropdown list to simplify the process.
At the request of the police, we included a feature to allow multiple fines to be paid at once. If someone has received two or more fines, they can select them all, and the total amount will be automatically calculated. Each police station involved has been equipped with a mobile phone for this system. Once the payment is made, an electronic receipt is issued immediately, and the relevant police officer receives an SMS confirmation via the GovPay short codes. This message includes all necessary details. After that, the driver can collect their license without further delay. This pilot project aims to enhance convenience, reduce delays, and improve transparency.
